Once a baby is born, so much of the focus and energy turns toward them. After all, they are extremely dependent and needy little humans that require so much of our time. It’s natural for all the books and chatter to be about those sweet and squishy little cherubs that have entered our lives. However, someone else is in the midst of this. Someone going through changes from the depths of their core to their actual physical being. That person matters, too. That person is worthy of our time and attention and a bit of our chatter. That person is you, mama. You matter. And these words are for you.
A few days before I was scheduled to submit this manuscript to my editor, an interview with the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, was released. The interview was part of the documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey. Tom Bradby from ITV asked the Duchess “Are you okay?” in regards to her journey of becoming a royal and a new mom. Her response immediately went viral. She said, “Thank you for asking because not many people have asked if I’m okay.” The response went viral, in my opinion, because new mothers everywhere wholeheartedly related to it. And the response became reassurance that this book is important. Mamas all over the world need to be reminded that they matter and to be asked, “Are you okay?” This book is for everyone who has ever felt like Meghan.
